The Password is: $$$$$...

Yeah you know it & I do too. It is clear & everybody knows it is true.

Everybody knows the deals are rotten.
Everybody knows the fights are set.
Everybody knows politics is for fools & the elected presidents are the ones who lie better.
Everybody knows we are in trouble but hey who cares we can use our credit cards to buy our way through...

Yeah everybody knows, but that's how it goes!

You can role the dice & take the gamble. Wish for a double 6 to break free from what we have come to call life & if luck deserts you, just light your cigar, turn on your TV & watch the PG 18 show to forget the pain...

Or ring the bells for one last time & wish someone in the distance hears your call & decides to wake up to admit life ain't just about knowledge but...

Oh I forgot what I was to say, perhaps it's the effect of the pills they've fed me.........

Omid ;
encore du Sardou pour toi;)

L'argent ne sert pas à paraître
L'argent sert à faire de l'argent
Tu es le véritable maître
C'est toi qui fait les présidents
Hier demain l'argent est maître
Jourdain tu l'as et pour longtemps
Paraître ou bien ne pas paraître
Ca tu t'en fous éperdument

Yeah Omid, that's the way it goes. But maybe we all need to take a gamble to break free. If we keep fighting the structure, maybe some day we may achieve something beautiful. Even if it's on a local level, it's still beautiful.

"Remember this, we be many, they be few. They need us more than we need them. Another world is not only possible, she's on the way and, on a quiet day, if you listen very carefully you can hear her breathe."
(Arundathi Roy, World Social Forum 2003)

This is a rather pessimistic assessment of live! However, in many ways, I would have to agree with you. However, I don't think that life is all about random luck. Sometimes, I think that we make our own luck. For those with a positive attitude, things seem to go their way. For those with a negative attitude, the opposite is often true. I think that the difference is in how other people perceive us. If a person feels positive energy from someone else, that person will probably react positively to the someone else. I know that life can be really bad sometimes, but if you try to stay at least a bit on the positive side, others will help you along the way. :)

Funny thing is, even when you go out of your way to avoid all the trappings of money... it is, in effect, still ruling your life due to your sheer avoidance of it. Now what drugs were these? remember... I'm a professional... =)

Your post, as usual, is powerful and thought provoking. In my life I was much influenced by the writings of Thoreau, and some books by Helen and Scott Nearing, and the examples of people who for moral or political reasons chose to live at a near poverty level. My family lives at a level that is below a taxable income in my country. My imagination is much too good, and the uses to which this gov't has put tax money are not ones I could buy into.
But I realize I am very privileged nonetheless, and that my life has granted me exceptional things and opportunities.
And we do still struggle with questions of $$$.
But I agree with the quote from Arundhati Roy posted by Hydra--and am really loving the bits from Sardou. Must find his music somewhere.

em - there are numerous activities & circumstances where money won't be needed but bit by bit we are losing ground.

frank - from the poorest to the richest country, money has become the aim of living. Even knowledge is an slave for the goal. Nth to worry abt though.

farzad - life is a viscious cycle spinning around $s. Who says you can't buy love! perhaps the prices change. I have also seen many cases of such :-S

foulla - je pense que Sardou, Il a chante de toute les choses :-) thats why I like him best...

hydra - the problem is we the many are formed by individuals who have high spirits & the ones who prefer to adjust to the new conditions. As they said it back in rome "A big army is one without discipline".

david - I am in total agreement with you on that but what has kept me thinking is why there is no wrod to explain sth between pessimistic & optimistic? perhaps Eumistic as I shall call it! or is it realistic? There are some general aspects to our failure...

b.b - there are no real medication I take just pills of negligence perhaps on daily bases :-)

spyder - this is a maze with no way out perhaps. We go towards the thought to think it through but there is no ending & never reaches anywhere special...

jarvenpa - it ain't all abt money & the fact is somewhat a forgotten topic. There are not many who would like to admit they find joy without spending but perhaps this is life...

Omid, I think that realistic is a good word to place between P and O. In past years, I used to say that I was cautiously optimistic, but I think that I am mostly realistic these days and sometimes pessimistic. Still, I try to bring a bit of joy into other lives whenever I can.

david - we all have transitional phases changing from one state into the other but still both sides have their own advantages...

NBB - well even in the best cases, perhaps ther is one $ in every password as it has undeniablly become essential. :-)
