O-Scars...

Sometimes events forget the reason they are taking place. Sometimes prizes go to the wrong people. Yet when we are talking about Oscars we are not talking about a small scale on which movies are judged & mistakes are common. Or in better words we were not talking about it that way at least!

All n' all, with all the familiar glamourous faces & the same if not better preparations, Oscar was only a fading shadow of what it used to be this year. The prizes went to the worst options ever & they just went to the safe-to-be winners instead of the must-be winners!

Oscar "Crash"ed it's own reputation with the stupidity running through the elections including aspects in their judgement which was not to be involved.

Well no argue that this gay-topic has always proved to be provokative to the public but "Brokeback Mountain" was just a movie when it arrived at the Oscars & it had to be judged accordingly. Guess there are factors other than Cinema involved. Is that what Oscar is all about then?? Why 8 nominations if they did not approve the story? Straight or gay? is this the question they should be asking before voting?

& the error was not only in this field but it continued to emphasize on shocking the audiance instead of rewarding the best...

Oscar-What?

I haven't seen either Brokeback Mt or Crash yet (with my kid we usually wait till things are out on DVD or video so we can watch more privately--Gabe gets agitated in big theatres)--but I was pretty surprised by a lot of the picks too. (I think you are right & there is a lot of reasoning behind the votes that doesn't have much to do with quality of the film).
But the dresses were pretty!

Ola

I too have not both Crash and Brokeback Mountain.

Many were surprised that Brokeback Mountain did not win for best picture.I suppose the Academy went with a "safe" choice with Crash.

I saw the brokeback Mt. It was just a nonsense stupid story which I hardly managed to continue watching until the end. Very slow and wordless movie. Ok, I admit that I a conservative person who doesn’t agree with gay-rights but still I am sensitive and the movie didn't communicate with me at all. It's funny to say for me the Kingkong's love to the girl was more touching. Anyways, I'm not sure if it was even safe-to-be winner!

I haven't seen any of the movies yet. I almost always wait and rent the new movies on video. As to gay cowboys, I am not a homophobe, but I am not particularly interested in that subject matter either. What really surprised me (unpleasantly), was the choice of best song in a movie. I listened and watched the performance of "Its Hard Out There For a Pimp". To be honest, I don't think of that sort of thing as music, and the multiple beeps on the delayed telecast suggested a definite lack of class on the part of the performers. Maybe I am just getting old. ;)

I thought Brokeback mountain was good. I saw both Brokeback Mt and Crash and I think that both of those movies have an important message for people. Precisely because of these messages both are entangled with politics. I do think that out of both of them Crash was the safer of the two. America's administration is really conservative now so I would be surprised if that element was taken into consideration.

Conservative or liberal I would say that everyone should watch both of them!

Well it’s always been like that with the Oscars hasn’t it? Someone makes a risqué film, the academy pretends not to like it, people flock to the cinemas to see what all the fuss is about and so the film becomes the most successful film of the year. Then they give all the Oscars to it as well. It’s all so predictable.

Well the judgement is very dependent on our ideas. Views are to be exchanged. I learned good points from every comment here. Thanks for the useful comments friends.

There was also this major disagreement among the public & my friends. All I can say is this year didn' have the same atmosphere...
