Painful To Be A Woman...

It had been estimatedly 39 weeks & 3 days since she had fortified herself in her so called castle of dark where no light could penetrate her vague waves of thought on what was passing outside. Lately she had not felt as comfortable as before as it had become more of a dungeon to her than a safe but still she refused to give way to the increasing pressures trying to force her out. The walls were caving in, now touching her skin & twisting her towards the wall in the other end. Forces were mounting. Suddenly light -the stranger- tickeled her closed eyelids. She was soon to exit the unfriendly walls she used to call home. Her head squeezed through the opening, her pupils greeted the first rays of sunshine. She released her shoulders through painfully & her body expulsed out. My hands held her still-in-shocked stature as she started to experience her first of yet-to-repeat cry session...

No pain No gain.
The pain can be heard and felt completely but the gain is still a mystery.
I have a sweet imagination. Maybe it's like the dirt and sins of our soul will be clear fast and efficiently. Like inserting a white dirty tissue in a powerfull whittening liquid.
I'm sure something credible is happening; I don't care about the pain :)

A very interesting description of pregnancy and birth! I wish the new mother and child good health and happiness. Did the pregnancy really last 39 weeks? That is nearly 10 months! I imagine that the baby was quite large.

i went through all this, about two hours..then c-section..i had tears in my eyes.i so wanted her to come "naturally"..but hey,she came..healthy and beautiful.

A great description of a birth. It is so amazing to see a new human being fresh in this world. My own childbearing (I have three children)was not without pain--but there is nothing more amazing than those moments after the baby is safely in your arms. Support people see the great work of laboring and delivery, but may not fully see the joy (though I hope they do)

and the first uttered word (or thought) that goes thru her mind is... "what a terrible world out here, nak masuk balik lah macam ni"!!!

Hey Doc, I heard that the pregnancy/delivery pain is the only physical pain that a man could not handle... I don't know if it's true or not.
Cheers :)

anonymuis - exactly, an experience I doubt any man would like to try ;-)

dr in the house - it is so nice to C a doctor visiting as we speak & think in the same language; medicine.

em - no worries. Don know how women go through it but I know they look forward to it!

kimia - there is surely the pain but the gain; I am not so sure abt it :-) it takes loads of after-pain to make it worthy to be called gain.

david - it was her first living child after she had lost the first due to abortion. They did all well.

actually according to most textbooks; before week 37 is considered premature and above 42 postmature. This one was ok.

foulla - the most important is for the mother & the baby to come out ok. That's what is most desired. C-section has it's own benefits & disadvantages as well.

Jarvenpa - the first is the toughest for a women. The followings will do better & the mother as well... Actually the people involved get to C it much better than the mom, perhaps they can't feel it like she does. Of course it is to the benefit of the mother not to C the process :-S not a pleasent scene at all.

nurul bahiyah - perhaps the baby is too busy adjusting she won't have enough time to think ;-) after all those weeks she experiences the push out & then many surrond him/her with all those tools & devices...

Farzad - don know abt others but me ain't never gonna even think abt it even for a fraction of a second :-) you know it ain't only the pain but other process & complications involved.

Hi Doc, did you see that movie, years ago, that those little kids in the kindergarten were telling Arnold Schartzneger what their fathers dfor a living an this little boy stood up proudly, said:
"My father is a gynecologist, he looks at vagina all day and he is always happy."
So, doc! are you happy all the time too? And still pretend that you are one of those unhappy guys?
Kidding doc!

I always think the entire experience is scarier for the babe, than the mom.

Wonderful photo. The process is probably pretty intense for the baby, wenchy is right (too bad we all can't remember our own births--or maybe this is a good thing). My first child ended up being born in our little local hospital (like foulla I had a lot to process after--though it wasn't a C section); my other two were born in my cabin with the help of a very good midwife, so I did get to see a lot (though not, obviously, from the same viewpoint as my attendants!). Definitely a messy process, this getting born.

em - nope. to be perfectly honest and I am not found of the subject either :-) sometimes necessity makes us inevitably do things we dislike :-D

gazankhan - actually a doctor collects money in between patients blood & sh*t :-S unfortunately pain pays us. That's the nature of this field. Yet believe me, gyneco is one of my least faves as it is sometimes pretty nasty the view & unstandable for me...

Wrenchy - perhaps that's right! but they fail to express their feelings. It is the mother's pain that steals the show.

Jarvenpa - usually experienced midwives do excellent in a normal uncomplicated delivery. But I can say you have also had luck circling above you to have everything get on well :-)

Glad to hear that mother and child are doing well! :) Nice picture! I have seen many pictures (and a few videos) of child birth. I know that it is not the most beautiful thing to witness! However, there is beauty, I think, in the end result, and in seeing the love for the baby in the parents eyes.

hi there!
I've bloghopped from Em..
Was curious if you were really a doc..hehe..
The pic of the baby, reminds me of my late son..

I Guess It is Painful to be "SUCH" a woman

Anonymous said...

at last you didn't say what kind of a doctor are you! what if a naive ill person asks you for medical advice and it brings serious consequences?

Dr O2 said...

dr a - the unintelligent like us have sentenced us to the faith perhaps...

david - yeah there is beauty in the end. but unfortunately there is no skip button to the end ;-)

nasrina - me is a GP at the time.

iranian idiont - it is tough to be "such" of anythin ;-)

anonymus - it is never to trust a stranger never mind to take advice :-) specially virtually.

I know you and I know, like some others, that you are not a doctor and that's ok, it's all a joke anyway but ofcourse it's ok untill you haven't gone too far. Be like before Omid, don't talk about medical stuff don't push it.You don't need to deny it, just don't interfere in medicin no mre!
